The Leo program, as the world's largest youth organization and the youth program of Lions Clubs International, embodies the values of "Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity" (L-E-O). Through participation in the Leo program, individuals gain numerous opportunities to develop their leadership skills while engaging in diverse service projects aimed at supporting underprivileged communities. This program fosters a culture of proactive service and empowers youth to take initiative in addressing societal needs.
Lions Clubs International, established in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois by Melvin Jones, is a global service organization dedicated to meeting the needs of communities locally and globally. With 4,500 clubs spread across 250 countries worldwide, Lions Clubs International addresses key issues such as vision, hunger, environment, childhood cancer, and diabetes. The organization is headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, and strives to create a better world by actively serving communities and promoting humanitarian values.
Thus, the Leo Club of District 306 C2 University of Jayewardenepura puts this into action by providing opportunities for growth and contribution to the youth of Sri Lanka. In 2019, the Leo Club of University of Jayewardenepura was established as a university-based Leo Club to encourage youth to participate in social activities and thereby develop leadership qualities which cannot be gained through academic curriculum.
